Three of Pentacles

Three of Pentacles
Three of Pentacles, Raider-Waite Tarot, US Games

Definition

Métier, trade, skilled labor; usually, however, regarded as a card of nobility, aristocracy, renown, glory.  Reversed: mediocrity, in work and otherwise, puerility, pettiness, weakness.

Detail

At first I thought the worker was holding a cup, tilted over, before I remembered seeing an old mallet. Or a stone mason's maul. It is a tool used tool for setting stones in place, adjusting their place in mortar. Tap tap.

Perhaps the mallet is used to strike a chisel; friction sparking change.

Day

This is the first card of the deck where the guide book and the imagery seem out of sync to me. Perhaps I need to sit on this a bit more, but when I think of the images of the mason, the monk and the architect land on me different because of my own story.

I have a bit of a complicated relationship with my work I am finding it hard to put it perspective. That being said, something I choose to embrace is seeking a higher calling in my work everyday.
