Four of Pentacles
"The things you own end up owning you. It's only after you lose everything that you're free to do anything." - Chuck Palahniuk
Definition
The surety of possessions, cleaving to that which one has, gift, legacy, inheritance.
Reversed: Suspense, delay, opposition.
Detail
I see the "miser" siting on his "throne." Its a powerful posture, someone who has everything—the city skyline behind him—and still needs to pull inward and selfishly protect his possessions. Yet at the same time we see the coin, or pentacle, on the head and at the feet, as above, so below. A kind of dominion of the possession possessing the possessor.
Day
Another interesting relationship for me and this card; I think the intention is to convey a kind of stability of possession; the foundation of having what you need. However, I find myself these days trying to remove myself from the sense of owning and being owned.
I know that for some, having possessions equates to a kind of freedom; I think for me, on this day, it's more important to release the possession and to find freedom in the release.
